ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Dr. Henry V. Burton
Dr. Henry V. Burton is an Associate Professor and the Presidential Chair in Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. His teaching and research focuses on nonlinear structural analysis, performance-based engineering and urban resilience. He is a California-registered structural engineer and has worked several years in industry. He is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Next Generation of Disaster Researchers Fellowship (2014), the National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2016), and the Structural Engineering Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) S.B. Barnes Research Award (2024).
Rowan Vansleve
Rowan currently serves as the President of Hope the Mission, the largest provider of interim Housing beds in LA County and the largest Rescue Mission in the Country. He leads the day to day operations of the Mission and its long term strategic vision. He is responsible for the Mission’s financial stability, personnel, communications, fundraising, media engagement and community awareness. During his time at Hope, he has filled a number of roles including Interim Chief Program Officer, Chief Development Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Rowan is considered a thought leader in homeless services and is often sought after as a speaker or for media comment.
Maria S. Salinas
Maria S. Salinas is the President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the largest business association in Los Angeles County representing member companies and serving the interests of more than 235,000 businesses across the Los Angeles region. Ms. Salinas took the helm of the organization in August of 2018 and became the first woman and Latina to lead the Chamber in its 136-year history. An accomplished businesswoman, entrepreneur, and a determined community leader, Ms. Salinas’ business acumen and financial expertise provide her with the right experience to lead the L.A. Area Chamber.

Each City Impact Lab begins with a lively panel of civic, business, and/or community leaders who share their personal experiences and strategies to make an impact in Los Angeles. We then have an engagement “experiment” that allows all attendees a chance to connect on the challenges they are facing in their own work.
