San Andreas Fault Tour featuring Dr. Lucy Jones

August 24, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Personally Witness the Fastest Moving Fault with Dr. Lucy Jones

Join Dr. Lucy Jones and John Bwarie of Stratiscope for a special Earthquake Alert Tour of the San Andreas Fault in the San Gabriel Mountains. Space is very limited with Dr. Lucy Jones leading you on this 3-hour private excursion of the source of our region’s future “Big One.” The San Andreas Fault is Southern California’s fastest moving fault, so you want to see what may rock the region and get a jump on what you can expect when it happens. Dr. Jones will lead a bus tour through the mountains to explore the fault with you, so you personally understand what’s happening and why the San Andreas fault is different than others. You will see all this through the eyes of this internationally renowned seismologist.

The Earthquake Fault Tour will depart promptly from San Bernardino City Hall parking structure at 9:30am. Please arrive before the departure time to make sure you are on the bus when we leave. We will return approximately 12:30pm to San Bernardino.

Our excursion will travel by bus to sites along the San Andreas Fault from Cajon Pass to Wrightwood.  In order to see the geologic features, there will be the option to walk with Dr. Jones to sites off the bus. With the terrain and temperature, we recommend you wear comfortable clothes, walking shoes, and for sun protection, a hat and/or sunscreen. The walking portion will be no more than 1/2 mile (about 12-15 minutes).

During the bus travel time, there will be an opportunity to hear Dr. Jones’ personal reflections, ask her questions, and delve into the strategies for earthquake resilience in communities across Southern California with John Bwarie, who shared crucial preparedness guidelines on KABC during the most recent quake.

Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to master the fundamentals of what has shaped our region and our lives in Southern California.
